Ancotrans is strengthening its commercial organisation with the appointment of Lise Kirkensgaard Corrie as new Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) as per 1st of June. The move supports the company’s growth strategy and ambition to deliver even greater value, transparency and customer experience across all markets.

Queen of the Road: 10% Female Drivers – A Milestone Reached

What started as an ambition is now a reality — and it strengthens the service we deliver to our customers. By the end of 2025, women make up 10% of our driver workforce, helping us secure capacity, stability, and reliable container transport across Europe.

A goal reached. A signal sent

The transport industry has been male dominated for a long time. But things only move when someone decides to move them.
That’s exactly why we launched Queen of the Road — with a clear goal:
10% female drivers by the end of 2025. And as one company across four countries, we made it.
Not because it “looked good on paper.”
Not because it was trendy.
But because being a great driver has nothing to do with gender — and everything to do with skills, responsibility, and dedication.

More drivers. More capacity. Better deliveries.

The driver shortage is one of the biggest challenges in our industry — and it affects all of us.
Customers need reliable capacity, and goods still need to move, no matter the season or the market.

That’s why opening the door wider — and making sure people feel welcome once they step in — isn’t just the right thing to do. It’s necessary.

Queen of the Road was created to help:

–  Make container trucking a realistic and attractive career choice for women too
–  Break outdated stereotypes about who “belongs” behind the wheel in the trucks
–  Build a stronger, more diverse driver community at Ancotrans — so we can keep delivering for our customers

Never alone behind the wheel

For many drivers, it’s not the truck that makes the difference — it’s the people around you. Being new in the industry can come with a steep learning curve, and the day-to-day work can sometimes be physically demanding. That’s why a supportive culture matters. Knowing you can ask for help, share a laugh, and rely on your colleagues makes all the difference — and it creates the kind of workplace where drivers feel safe, respected, and never alone on the job.

“Being a woman in a male-dominated industry is not scary at all, and I think it’s important to show that women can drive trucks too – and that everyone in our workforce is equally valuable!

I sometimes face physical challenges — the doors on some containers can be difficult to open and shut. Or the tarpaulin can be positioned so high that it’s hard to reach, while also having the strength to cut it open. But there’s always someone you can ask for help, and you just take any jokes that might come with a smile. All colleagues are incredibly helpful, and that means the world when you’re new to the industry.

I think ANCO’s Queen of the Road is a fantastic way to show the industry and women that it can be done. That when you are a woman — and maybe even a parent — it’s still possible to be a truck driver. But it does require more people across the industry to open up and look for solutions.”

John Aage Hansen, one of our drivers and Employee Representatives, is a strong believer in creating a more inclusive transport industry — and he sees the value of diversity first-hand in everyday operations. For him, it’s not about gender, but about skills, mindset, and teamwork.
As he puts it:

“It’s a great thing to get more women into the industry. There’s no such thing as a ‘man’s world’ anymore — women are just as skilled behind the wheel. I always tell my female colleagues: don’t be afraid to ask for help. This job gives you freedom and independence, but you’re never alone. We’ve got each other’s backs.”

With a legacy built on 143 years of transport, ANCOTRANS now begins a new chapter. Effective June 1st, 2025, Peter Groth steps into the role of CEO, taking over from Anne Kathrine Steenbjerge, 5th generation owner and now Chairwoman of the Board. The green and yellow values stay strong—and the direction forward is clear.

A CEO Transition Built on Trust and Continuity

After more than a decade as CEO, Anne Kathrine Steenbjerge is stepping aside from daily operations to focus on her role as majority shareholder and Chairwoman of the Board. Her successor, Peter Groth, brings 26 years of logistics experience—17 of them from DSV—and a strong belief in people, customer focus, and long-term value creation.

“This is a big moment for me personally and for the company. As the 5th generation leader, finding a CEO who understands our business, our people, and our values was crucial. I truly believe that Peter is the right person to lead ANCOTRANS into the future, and I’m excited to support him as Chairwoman.”

The transport industry has long been male dominated, but times are changing. Female drivers are increasingly becoming a key part of the workforce. Our ‘Queen of the Road’ initiative is a perfect example of how the industry can embrace women in trucking, not just for equality but also for the value they bring.

Queen of the Road is designed to help female drivers feel welcome, included and valued.

Breaking stereotypes
and battling driver shortage

The demand for skilled drivers is rising, yet fewer young people are entering the profession. Meaning that transport companies must increase their talent pool to keep goods moving efficiently in the future.

For decades, trucking has been seen as a tough job suited for men. Long workdays have also kept many women away. Especially those balancing family responsibilities. But that’s changing, as more flexible schedules open the door for women to enter and thrive in the industry.

Lonnie Skovlund Rasmussen, one of Ancotrans’ female drivers, is an active ambassador who encourages other young women to give the job a chance. Even if it feels unfamiliar at first, she says, it is absolutely worth going for.

“My family didn’t believe I could make it in this line of work, but I was determined to prove them wrong. I had a rough experience at school with some guys who acted like idiots, but Ancotrans backed me all the way. HR listened, supported me, and helped me transfer schools. That meant everything. And now, when I show up in the sideloader, I get real respect.”

An ambitious goal

At Ancotrans we are proving that women can excel behind the wheel just as well as men. We have set a goal of having 10% women in our driving seats by 2025. A goal which is very much within reach. The ‘Queen of the Road’ initiative is meant to help us attract, train, and support female truck drivers. Showing that skills and dedication, not gender, define a great driver.

“There is no such thing as a man’s world anymore. Women are just as capable as men. People say, ‘New drivers mean dents’, but that’s simply not true. Also, the women know they’re up against prejudice, so they go the extra mile to show their professionalism.”

While driving skills are not defined by gender, we have seen how bringing female drivers into the team sparks valuable conversations and team spirit.

But let’s be clear; encouraging women to take up trucking is not just about filling job vacancies. It is very much about building a stronger future transport industry. By supporting female drivers, transport companies are not only promoting equality but also helping us ensure long-term success in a very competitive field.

Freedom. Responsibility. Accomplishment.

When interviewing female truck drivers for this article, one thing became clear: what they value most about their job. Without hesitation, all cited freedom as their top priority. While deliveries must be made on time, the sense of independence behind the wheel is invaluable.

Equally important is the recognition of responsibility. Not just for the cargo but also for the customer, the company, the truck, and everyone on the road.

“I’m trusted, given real responsibility and they take me seriously. My manager listens and is easy to reach. As Ancotrans drivers, we’re good at helping each other out. If there’s a problem, we solve it. No drama, no one breathing down your neck. That kind of freedom means a lot.”

Finally, there is a shared and deeply rooted sense of accomplishment. Many expressed pride in proving their skills, with a common sentiment being: “I can do this—and do it well.” More than a few emphasized how important it is to challenge and break the outdated prejudices about female drivers—because that’s all they are: prejudices.

The future is right around the corner

As more transport companies recognize the benefits of hiring female drivers, we can expect continued growth in their numbers. Initiatives like Queen of the Road are setting the standard for how the industry should approach gender diversity.

Merry Christmas from ANCOTRANS!

As we jingle all the way to the end of 2024, let’s take a sleigh ride down memory lane. This year has been a rollercoaster, but thanks to you—our valuable customers and partners—we’ve had a good time, despite resistance, and together we have hit some high notes too!

Navigating through market ups and downs, we’ve all had to be a bit more flexible, adaptable, and yes, patient. But we did it together!

Highlights of 2024:

  • AncoPro: Our brand new Transport Management System streamlines our container transport and overall logistic operations across Europe
  • Electric Trucks: Rolling out our electric fleet in Denmark, Sweden, and Germany.
  • Electric Genset Technology: Cutting emissions, one container at a time.
  • DUO-Link: Greener, more efficient transport solutions in Sweden and Denmark.
  • New Stuttgart Representation: Boosting our operations in Germany with our extensive AncoModal rail network including first and last mile transports.

Looking Ahead to 2025
