Peter Groth joins ANCOTRANS with a clear ambition: to grow the company’s position as one of Northern Europe’s leading container transport specialists.

To ensure full continuity for both customers and colleagues, Peter and Anne Kathrine will be working side by side over the next three months in a close “twinning setup” — allowing for a smooth onboarding and direct dialogue.

The leadership transition strengthens the company’s ability to grow in existing and new markets, while staying close to our people and customers.

All customers, partners, colleagues, friends and family are warmly welcomed for a reception on 3^rd September where we will celebrate Anne Kathrines’ transition into chairwoman of the Ancotrans Board. We hope to see many of you for a lovely day at our Glostrup office with street food and drinks from the ANCO container bar.

She explains how for her driving a truck is living the dream of a meaningful working life. When she was a child, she used to go on trips with her grandfather who was also a truck driver, and she loved it. But it’s largely thanks to Ancotrans that she’s now on her way to making a career of driving a truck. “I’ve never worked anywhere where I was as happy as I am here. I did internships as both a technical designer and a farmer, but driving is right up my street. There’s a really good team spirit. It’s like we’re a family. And it’s great to get behind the wheel of such a large vehicle – I love it,” says the young apprentice driver with a beaming smile. She enjoys the positive reactions she also gets when people realise there’s a woman at the wheel of one of the big Ancotrans trucks.

As she says, she just likes to drive – even at five in the morning when she arrives to take the first trip of the day, a container delivery. And she loves her job most when it presents her with a challenge, such as making a delivery to a place that is difficult to back into first time. “I would definitely recommend this line of work to other girls and women if they like driving – and if they like big vehicles. There are disadvantages, including the lack of toilet facilities when you visit other companies, and truck driving is still a strongly male-dominated profession. But I hope that this will change in the future,” says Natascha, adding that she hopes to become a permanent employee at Ancotrans after her apprenticeship and work as a driver for many years to come.

Ancotrans has successfully hired women drivers – The goal is to reach 10 per cent by 2025. At Ancotrans, special efforts are being made and an internal working group has been set up to focus on initiatives to recruit and retain more female drivers. With a number of means and an open mind, Ancotrans is well on the way to achieving success in a project that may inspire competitors who wish to recruit more women. Currently, seven per cent of the company’s drivers are women, and the goal is to reach 10 per cent by 2025.

“In general, we would like to see more women in the cab. We would have liked to have reached 10 per cent by now. We’re off to a good start and will definitely reach our target by 2025,” says Morten Stubkjær Nielsen, Team Leader at Ancotrans West. He is one of the people behind Ancotrans’ success with female drivers. “In actual fact, women drivers are no different to men. The women do the job on an equal footing with their male colleagues,” Mikael Hadaydeh emphasises.

Striving for a reduced impact on our planet is not only our ambition for the future – it’s a central part of the Ancotrans values and strategy. That’s why, for 2040, we aim to be 100% carbon neutral, and to achieve this goal, our strategy is shifting from carbon offsetting and turning it towards reduction.

Besides the environmental impact our new green trucks effects, there’s a series of advantages to our drivers in the operation and driving of the electrical truck. To mention there is significant less movement in the driver’s cab when driving as well as the noise and exhaust inconveniences are eliminated.

Electricity is the first low-carbon solution to hit the market. And amongst other alternative fuels, electricity is by far the most efficient. Electric batteries are 4x more energy efficient than synthetic diesel. Making it a clear front-runner in attempts to green up road transportation of containers.

Currently, the operational range of e-trucks is at an interregional and city/regional level. But soon, battery-electric and fuel-cell electric technologies will be able to handle long haul and the very heavy transport.

Electric trucks significantly improve work conditions for drivers by eliminating engine noise, vibrations, and tailpipe emissions. These three factors are crucial to our drivers, as they create a far more comfortable and safer working environment. An environment that could potentially attract new drivers, something the transport industry really needs.

By going electric, container transport companies and customers can put their money where their sustainable branding is by actively investing in green transport solutions that can cut emissions today.

However, with any developing technology, there are bound to be some issues that need ironing out.

The lack of charging terminals and infrastructure is clearly an issue for transport companies looking to incorporate more e-trucks into their fleets. But is it the lack of terminals keeping e-trucks from being more commonplace? Or is the lack of e-trucks on the road the reason the infrastructure is lacking?

It’s a good question, and the answer is most likely a bit of both. But let’s examine charging infrastructure. Access to charging ports can vary drastically from region to region and country to country. This will ultimately limit the overall viability and range of e-trucks and increase downtime.

In Ancotrans we have a commitment to become 100% CO2 neutral. Our target for 2026 is to reduce our emissions by 5%. And to accomplish this, our strategy is shifting from carbon offsetting and turning it towards reduction. However, we still offer carbon offsetting options for our customers in our afforestation project in cooperation with Trofaco, who are helping planting thousands of trees within the ANCO forest in Uganda.

Meeting this ambitious reduction target means kickstarting new eco-friendly initiatives and investing more in green products and solutions.

To make an even better company, we must start with our workplace and employees. We’re a family-owned business, and our values and ways of working together result in a strong team spirit and engagement in each individual. This is the sentiment we try and spread across our company, and we believe we are doing a good job at looking after our employees and creating strong partnerships with our many different stakeholders.

But as with everything, we can always look to do more and build upon what we are already doing.

Our focus for the near future will be promoting good leadership and enhancing employee growth throughout the company. We will also be implementing greater access to mental and physical well-being initiatives for our employees.

By improving on these aspects, we hope to create a better and more efficient workplace, generating more value for our customers. And in addition, develop a workplace environment that further helps our current and prospective employees grow and develop.

Since our first container shipment, we have always kept our wheels on the ground, looking to be a better company– and that hasn’t changed. By focusing on our people, our planet, our growth, and our customers, we will create a better and smarter container transport product, hopefully pushing us towards being the preferred partner in all the markets we operate in, now and in the future.
